CWCS Projects

The De-Facto Unemployment Rate is a quarterly report from the CWCS. It adds additional information to statistical reports provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and suggests that the real unemployment rate is much higher than reported.

Working-Class Culture in Youngstown features multimedia exhibits created by students in our courses on Work in Youngstown.  Many of these exhibits tell stories about students' own families and work experiences.

The Steeltown Digital Library provides access to primary sources reflecting the history of the Mahoning Valley, including many of the sources discussed in Steeltown USA: Work and Memory in Youngstown. The site also offers lesson plans for using local history in middle and high school courses.

Worker Portraits is a collection of profiles of Mahoning Valley workers, most of them written by YSU Journalism students, reflecting how work shapes people's lives.

Journalism Journeys presents some of the articles our Journalism students wrote on CWCS-sponsored field reporting trips over the past two years.

The Working-Class Literature site offers links to articles, websites, and collections, as well as a profiles of working-class writers and writers whose work addressed working-class themes developed by YSU graduate students.  The profiles introduce each writer's work and suggest resources for further study.

The CWCS Project Organizational Chart defines these and other projects the Center is concentrating on.
